Meet Our Culinary Team

Chef Tony Messina will helm the culinary direction for Common Craft South Boston. Born and raised in East Boston, Messina discovered his passion for cooking in his grandparents’ kitchen and began working in Boston restaurants at just fourteen, laying the foundation for a career defined by discipline, creativity, and a deep respect for the entire ecosystem that makes a kitchen thrive.

His talent has earned widespread acclaim, including Boston magazine’s “Best Outstanding Chef” in 2018 and the James Beard Foundation’s prestigious “Best Chef: Northeast” award in 2019, following recognition as both a semifinalist and nominee in previous years.

Chef Patrick Lipscomb will join Tony Messina as Chef de Cuisine, leading day to day kitchen operations. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Patrick set his sights on the kitchen early and built a career defined by precision, curiosity, and global influence. After relocating to New England in 2010, he trained at Cape Cod institutions including Pain D’Avignon, PB Boulangerie, and Brewster Fish House, then moved to Boston in 2015 to sharpen his craft at Bisq, Craigie on Main, Uni, and Pammy’s.

In 2023, Patrick was promoted to Chef de Cuisine at Barbara Lynch’s Menton, alongside Sportello and Drink, and later led the team at Hook + Line.

Influenced by travels through Spain, Japan, and France, he brings disciplined technique and bold flavor to hyper seasonal cooking, building menus that feel expressive and built to last.

The Current is a rotating culinary program driven by movement and change spotlighting new craftspeople, flavors, and ideas through custom menus, collaborations, and events.

The Stillroom is where cocktail craft comes to life, a place that honors the makers, ingredients, and techniques behind every pour. From spirits to botanicals, every detail is intentional. Creativity meets precision here, and every drink tells a story.
